RE: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.

I have a Gentron JD 3500 RV genset. As far as I can tell it is the same as most of the 3000 watt Chinese gensets. It came with my TT as an incentive and has never been useful. As soon as a load is applied it starts to surge. That is it goes to power, the back to idle then back to power and on and on. If I reach the governor linkage and hold it at power until it stabilizes it will continue to run. Any ideas what could be causing this or what to try to fix it?

12 volt confusion

I am fairly new to RVing and am confused by battery charging. I have a TT with a single 12 volt group 24 battery and an Atwood TP3 converter and distribution unit. I would like to install a 3 stage charger but don't understand how it would integrate with my system or would I have to replace the Atwood? I need education and recommendations.

RE: Water in the Campgrounds

Same old story. Bunch of fools out there that believe water from a bottle is pure. That water is from plants that are not tested or regulated by any thing other than the owner/manager's honesty. I am not accusing all bottlers of being unethical but how do you decide which. Granted, there a few parks that have their own water supply and it is not regulated any better than your high dollar bottled water, but almost all are on a municipal water supply which is regulated and is most likely as good as your water in your stick house. If you really want to waste money on a scam I know where you can buy water from the fountain of youth.
My edit. If you are sure about the bottled water you buy, see post by wny-pat, fine, but how are you sure, does the label says so.
these plants that aren't regulated and water that is not tested, are you saying that the drinking water regulations don't apply? that the FDA doesn't inspect them? I'd be more worried about the "nastys" that can leach out of the plastic myself.
bumpy
Regulations do exist but in most instances they don't apply or are not enforced and they are less stringent than for tap water. Check this site: http://www.nrdc.org/water/drinking/nbw.asp
I fully agree about the nastys in the plastic and I protest the tons of plastic drinking water bottles going into our garbage dumps. I wonder how many of the bottled water drinkers haul the emptys home for recycling.

RE: Your latest campground visitor?

She is a herding dog. You could have got her to round up some veal for the cookout.
Last I knew veal was from cows, mutton was from sheep.
These pics are another part of the wonderful world of camping. I don't have pics but last time we were at Pedernales Falls State Park, Texas a deer walked up and leaned over my shoulder to eat off my plate. There aren't many times anyone can eat off my plate but he was welcome.

RE: Rejected Because RV over 10 Years Old

If I owned a park I could make any rule I wanted to, that is an American freedom. Our freedoms are slowly being lost because of special interests and "political correctness".
That being said I have my freedom to decide where to spend my money (at least the portion that the government doesn't take and decide where to spend it), and I certainly would not spend it at "Small Country Campground in Louisa VA".
I would like some kind of rule that filters out the trash that lives in some of the RVs, including brand new rigs, than to be concerned about age.

RE: License plate seen on an RV

I am not spending their inheritance, I am spending my money that I worked hard for. For the first 18 to 21 years of their lives I spent my money on them and enjoyed doing it. Now it is time to enjoy spending it on me. All 3 of my children say if I spend my last nickel the day before I die they will be happy.

RE: Helping dump holing tanks.

I have a back and knee problem. The only way I can get to the connection and valve is by laying down on the ground. I carry a large piece of cardboard for a mat. After dumping I cannot get up without a chair or something to help me. It would be nice if the manufactures could plumb the outlet and valves so that they could be reached without having to be an acrobat. It is very hard and very painful, but it is worth it.

For the first ten months my black tank always read from 2/3 to full. I bought a Flush King, back flushed twice and now it reads correctly.

I would like to say something smart about how this has nothing to do with camping and why would anyone post it here but I think it has already been pretty well covered.

RE: What is the most spectacular view you've ever seen?

I guess mine would have to be manmade: Night air operations on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier, viewed from above on a catwalk on the ships island. All senses on overload from jet planes catapulting into the darkness, landing and maneuvering on the deck literally just a few yards away.
Don't know about most spectacular but the same scene from the middle of that flight deck is for sure the most frightening.

RE: do you tow with dodge 1500.

I have a 07 ram 1500 with the 5.7, 3.92 gears and factory tow. Tow limit is 8750# because I have 20" wheels. If I had the 17" it would be 9100#. The combined weight (trailer + truck) is 14000#. My trailer is about 6800# loaded. It tows fine, will downshift on hills unless it is in "tow/haul". I have recently completed a 3000 mile trip, including some pretty steep grades in the Allegheny & Appalachian mountains and into a 40 mph headwind in Kansas. Except for the mountains and wind it gets about 9.5 mpg at 65 mph but if I slow to 55 it jumps to 11 to 11.5 mpg.
The limit you are most likely to exceed is the truck gross weight, that includes the truck, passengers, cargo and the tongue weight of the trailer. If you can avoid this you should be OK.

I do, just out of habit and for a false sense of security. I know that it won't keep anyone out that wants in.

Second most spectacular was The Golden Gate Bridge after a 9 month deployment to the Tonkin Gulf onboard a US Aircraft Carrier. Most spectacular was my wife and kids waiting on the pier.

RE: speed limit

I don't know about other states but here in Texas a rectangular white sign with black letters is regulatory and mandatory. On all interstates, and most other limited access highways there are sign, as above, stating "Left Lane For Passing Only". Therefore if there is any reason the OP cannot drive at the speed limit on these roads it is because of the violator in the left lane, not because of the slower driver in the right lane. I have never heard of anyone being ticketed for this violation but think many should be. If I am on one of these roads I will be in the right lane and I will be going less than the maximum speed limit. If I am on a two lane highway I get out of the way as soon as I can.
PS. Love mudChucker's post.

RE: Ladder Capacity

Yep, I just missed it. Found it near lower rung on side rail with printing (about 4 point) on the backside. It is rated at 300 lbs. I am below the limit but just barely, don't think I will try to test the mounting. Thanks for all the replies.

Another Dual Cam question.

I am installing a Reese Dual Cam Straight Line system. The cam arm brackets are mounted, per instructions, with the cam arm pivot bolt 18" from the center of the coupler. The inner cam arm adjusting bolt has to be screwed out to the last thread to make the arm long enough for the cam lobe to reach the center of the cam of the spring bar. I can see from pictures in other posts about the Dual Cam install that this is not correct but I can't figure out what to do about it.

RE: Help installing new Reese hitch and Tekonsha P3

You are not through with the torque problem yet. If you read the instructions the two bolts that attach the hitch head to the shank are to be torqued to 300 foot pounds. Won't work with a 150 ftlb torque wrench. I am saddled with the same problem, I am redoing a botched install by Camping World and mine only goes to 100 ftlbs.
